32 - Going north

Things I should probably try to cram into the previous episode: (item) Mazao offered to take everybody away from the cart occasionally so Amre and Venla could have the exclusive use of it; (item) Amre and Venla dragged Asa to Veh to talk to him, and Mazao and Tao dragged Veh to Asa to talk to her, making for quite amusing teenage drama; (item) Amre advised Asa to make something to give Veh, and Venla advised Veh vice versa, and Veh then started to make a shirt for Asa from a bit of the ancient silk.

I have a faint suspicion that our going north is partly a way to extricate us from the royal party— but it’s so much fun, and Venla at least really wanted to see the north.

31 - Villages

From very skimpy notes; in particular I’m not sure who said what, or what exactly happened on which day. Also, I don’t remember exactly when Asa was with us and when she wasn’t. But if it matters I trust that someone will put me right. (But the fight thing is fixed; thanks!)

30 (II) - Being Ishey

Wow, I like the GM’s version of King Athal (first my NPC, then my PC for a while, now his NPC). We did discuss, at our second-favourite cafe on Sunday evening over adequate coffee and rather good brandy, what Athal’s opinion on various things would be.

Revelation at the end— not really a surprise because everybody —players, GM, PCs and NPCs knew it, but startling anyway when it happened. Also a kind of relief because lots of complicated things won’t have to happen now.

30 (I) - Nesile

Planned in two parts this time, because I’m expecting Part II to be harder to write and I want people to have something too read.

Nesile literally means “Halfway”, but it’s more than twice as close to Glan as it is to Ildis. (There’s a village called Halfweg between Amsterdam and Haarlem which is much closer to halfway, at least between the city centers: 9.6 km from Haarlem and 11.1 km from Amsterdam.)

29 - In the water

Whether it was the gods’ favour, or just plain good luck, or script immunity I don’t know. The GM and I discussed whether NPCs have script immunity; I know PCs don’t, on principle, so it’s logical that NPCs don’t either. I’d like at least the king, the queen and their children to be alive at the end of this journey, though!

28 (II) - Invisible people

Some of whom aren’t technically invisible, but would be invisible in, say, Solay. And definitely untouchable.

The timing of events in Hinla’s house is probably off, but I think all the important stuff is there anyway. Also, we’re not sure whether the poor neighbourhood is north or south of the river: north seems more convenient for the boatyard (and the present story) but it used to be south. Map work to be done. For now I’m leaving it on the north side.

28 (I) - Castle in the swamp

Part 1 of 2. What is now the beginning of Part 2 is a bit hard to write, so I’m posting this (even though it’s shortish) because people want to read it.

27 - Escape — well, sort of

I must make fewer notes, because the parts where I put down only a couple of words inspired me most to write. On the other hand, perhaps I put down only a couple of words because those were the absorbing parts!

26 - Not settled yet

The Order of the Sworn must be exasperated. Time to move on… Amre wants to go to Turenay and settle down for a while, but Venla seems to have convinced her to travel there by Rizenay.

Amre should write parts of this: especially the night with Ruang, but perhaps also the tail-end of the wake when Venla was (mercifully) sound asleep.

25 - Meeting the king!

And the queen! And, perhaps most relevantly at this moment, the commander of the Order of the Sworn but I don’t think Venla realises how important she is. Stopped in the middle of a conversation with the royal couple. I don’t think Tao and Mazao got round to saying what they want, except that they said earlier what they don’t want.

It’s a good thing that this story-arc is nearing its end because otherwise not only Venla, but also Amre will be masters before they’re sixteen from sheer PC-ness.
